TEAM SUPREME!

Last night I went to an invitation only event with my good friend Brien Bell from Invisible Gamer. It was a Konami presentation for the press to show off their new games. I had a great time and I met one of my internet favorites Max Scoville! You can find Max on Rev3Games. He’s a really chill dude and we talked shop.

This weekend I have some major work ahead of me. I’ll be working on my official sales page, portfolio, and configuring my new laptop. I’ll probably be launching a new website soon with a hosting service so I can play around with plugins and have more options with WordPress.org instead of .com.

Lastly today marks my 100th post! Thank you all who are apart of this website. I have 300+ followers and my posts get sent to nearly 1000 people. I couldn’t do any of this without you audience. You Rock!

Someone asked me to tell this story to you. It’s mostly related to technology so it fits on the site.

Ahem, last week I bought an mp3 player on sale from Frys for 10$. I was quite happy with my purchase because I wanted  something that I could use for music and listening to language lessons on. It’s a 2gb player so it has ample space and serves my needs. I plugged it into my computer and waited for the end of my weekend to use it because that’s when I would have free time.

So Monday hits and I am looking forward to trying out my new mp3 player. The little screen on the Eclipse was lit up so I thought that it worked but when I removed it from it’s power source it didn’t power on at all. I tried to make it work, left it on the charger and came back to it with the same results. But, I kept my receipt so I went back to Frys.

Hitting up the returns/customer service I told them of my plight and showed them my receipt. I’m a responsible customer. The guy asked for the packaging but I told him I wanted to exchange and he said that it wouldn’t be a problem. Walking to the back to get another mp3 player I found they’d all been marked up 5 dollars. In that aisle I asked an employee about that and she told me they’d make me pay the difference. So I went back to the original returns guy and asked him. After hearing his answer I’ve decided not to shop at Frys anymore. He said you need to pay the five dollar difference and return with the packaging now.

Five dollars isn’t a ton of cash. But it’s the insincerity and that feeling of betrayal that I can’t wash out of my brain. Not only are you going back on your word on this exchange, you’re also punishing me for purchasing at a smart time. Let’s also add in the fact that your company sold me something broken and I followed the rules for bringing it back.

When I shop with a company I feel like we are making a connection. I trust you and your merchandise. My money is a thank you for offering functional equipment and your promise to try to continue giving me that same great service. We had a bond Frys. And now you want to try to punish me for being intelligent while following your rules. No, I’m done.

Feel free to like this story if you’ve had this kind of pain and remember to follow me at the bottom of the page if you enjoyed reading. Or, you can leave a comment and I’ll get back to you!

Are you on the fence about seeing the new Judge Dredd movie? I can definitely understand why you might be hesitant, it’s predecessor is fairly corny to say the least. Nevertheless, you may be surprised at this new Flick. Dredd 3D is actually a really exciting little action title. I might as well tell you the good, the bad, and the ugly of this film.

What’s good about Dredd 3D? The action and slow motion scenes of this movie are top notch. They don’t skimp on the gore at all, so if watching people get ripped to shreds isn’t your thing stay away! They’re true to the source material about Dredd and his universe. They tie up almost all of the loose ends so that the plot feels well thought out. Lastly, there really doesn’t feel like any over acting which is a huge bonus.

What’s bad about Dredd 3D? You won’t learn any backstory really on any of the characters. In some ways that’s very good. It’s an action movie and you don’t want to waste too much time on exposition. Regardless, you feel less of a connection to Dredd, his rookie, and the big bad of the film. You’re also not going to see much of the city either since most of the movie was obviously filmed in one location.

What’s ugly about Dredd 3D? To be completely honest with you, not much. If I had to say anything was ugly it’s the opening scene where they explain the city and world in detail. But Dredd is based on an ugly version of our Earth so I can’t knock it for that. I will say sometimes it’s incredibly graphic and if you’re not ready for it then it’ll seem very ugly. Again though, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Dredd is a great action flick. Don’t take the kids to see it because you won’t be pleased with their recurring nightmares after viewing it. This is that kind of movie you’d always hoped they’d make with your favorite character. It’s true to the characters and it’s source material. It has great practical effects and leaves you wanting more. Go see it!

PS – I didn’t see the movie in 3D so I can’t comment on that.

I believe entertainment in any form has the capacity to change our views and our world. This is a speech Steve Jobs gave before he passed away. It’s one of the best I’ve ever heard and truly made me think of my own life. When people look back on my accomplishments I hope they see the same passion and drive in me that this man had. He has definitely inspired a generation. Give this a watch and tell me what you think!

Rememeber how I was having all those laptop problems with Tanga? Well I finally sent it back. Returning something to an online business is the most annoying experience possible! Although, now I know to tell you not to buy electronics from that website which is a positive. I bought one online from Fry’s through another sale so let’s hope they don’t break it’s way to me. Expect more technorance, everythingness, and juicy tidbits of technology to hit the website in the coming days. And as always, if you have anything to contribute please comment below and I’ll reply!

Happy Monday Audience!

So my weekend is full of work, partying, and computer shopping. I would say it’s not the worst of things I could be doing. What about you? What are your weekend plans? Hopefully you found  all of the computer posts this week somewhat enlightening. If you have any questions Audience leave a comment and also don’t forget to click follow at the bottom of the page! I’ll see you Monday!

Buying a computer can be a hefty purchase but there is a certain convenience in getting every piece of the puzzle all at once. You don’t need to shop around or measure parts against each other. You don’t have to worry about the complications of putting the rig together. And yet, in my mind the positives of buying your computer by the parts out does the factors of convenience. Here are some reasons you may want to buy and put your computer together yourself.

First off it’s much cheaper! Seriously, you may be in for a shock to learn that. Sometimes you don’t need the whole shabang! You can upgrade one part of your computer  or another which costs significantly less than buying a whole computer. However, even if you did get every piece it would cost you less anyway. The parts tend to be less expensive even as a whole.

Second, you know what you need which makes it much cheaper too. Lets say you need to build an office style computer. You can do just that! This means spending less on the video card and perhaps on the monitor since you’re using the machine mostly for typing. Regardless, lets say you’re a pc gamer. You may not even need a whole new computer, you may just need to purchase a new video card.

Third though, you know what parts are in your machine. This is actually pretty huge. Putting together your own pc gives you the knowledge of knowing what your pc is structured to do. Because of this you know what your computer can handle and why. And learning why and how your pc works will also help you in some cases for fixing certain problems like downloading drivers and codecs. It’s insanely useful.

Buying a pc still might be the way to go for you though. The straight forward nature of getting it all in one package can be very pleasing and hassle free. However, these reasons above are more than enough to make me want to put my computers together. In the end it has caused me less trouble. Do any of you in the Audience put together pc’s? Can you think of pros and cons not mentioned here? Put them in the comments below!

Building a computer has various advantages over buying a computer. Regardless, most people don’t want to make a computer because it sounds hard and complicated. Besides, who knows how many parts of a computer there are anyway. Well now its time to remove ignorance and replace it with knowledge! Here are the thirteen things your computer needs to function.

1. Motherboard – It’s the brain of your computer.

2. Processor – Basically its how your computer’s brain thinks.

3. Ram – This is how fast your computer can think/multi-task. (gamers your want more of this)

4. Case – Also called a tower, this is the husk of your computer which holds everything else.

5. Power Supply – The energy of your computer.

6. DVD Rw Drive – You need a place to put all of those shiny cds you’ve got right?

7. Hard Drive – This is how much your computer can store so go big or go home.

8. Video/Audio Card – Usually these cards are built together now and the more powerful they are, the better your graphics and sound are presented.

9. CPU Cooler – Sometimes it’s a fan, sometimes its a heatsink. Computers get hot too ya know.

10. Thermal Compound – It’s what cools down the processor if you decided on a heatsink.

11. Operating System – This is how you navigate around your machine. Most people have windows in some fashion.

12. Monitor – You need this to see what your computer is doing and visually enjoy it’s awesomeness.

13 Keyboard and Mouse – Don’t you want to interact with your new monster?

I think this is all of it. Just make sure when you go to get the parts you bring that tech-savvy friend of yours and a list. In tomorrow’s post I will give you the benefits of building a computer rather than buying one. Enjoy your Wednesday Audience!

Now you’ve learned the places to stay away from when it comes to tech shopping. I was generally negative and against shopping at Frys, Walmart, and Best Buy for different reasons. You will have to let me balance out the universe and align the planets in a more positive position. Here are the three places I shop for electronics and why.

I’d buy from the Apple Store. Look, I don’t care about all of the iEquipment you can find at Apple. However, if you’re not looking to play computer games left and right they build quality computers. Apple computers last because the hardware is made for the software. Only 8% of the world use them so they almost never have viruses out that you need to look for. And they are that beautiful silverish chrome that make your friends jealous.

You can buy from Frys now! Do it. Frys is a great place to buy computer parts. They have a whole section simply for building a custom made computer with a knowledgeable staff that can help you find all of the parts you’ll need. Designing your computer in this way can make it far more inexpensive yet  ten times more rewarding. Try Frys again but this time do it right. Plus if someone offers you the Frys warranty you know who to punch!

Have you ever heard of NewEgg.com? This is the website I send most people to and where my techie-nerdy-geeko-awesome friends sent me when I was clueless. NewEgg offers great deals, a wide variety, and good customer service. This is especially true if you’re building your rig. Trust me when I say “this website has got you covered.”

I know what some of you audience members are saying. You’re all like “but Chris from ChrisDemas.com, we don’t know what computer parts are essential for building our computer!” Have no fear Audience. You will get that in tomorrows post where I briefly cover what needs to be in a modern day computer.

With our technology on a perpetual race into the future, there are several stores that want your money. Some of you may already be tech savvy people and not need a list like this. However, for the rest of you, here are three stores you shouldn’t buy computers from and possibly games too. Yes, I am a little bias in my electronic shopping experience. Now you should be too!

Don’t go computer shopping at Best Buy. In every shopping venture that involved this store I’ve noticed a couple things. The first is Best Buy’s prices are inflated. Everything is overpriced especially their computers and laptops. Besides the prices though, the employees make me feel claustrophobic with all of their “help”. They are like a pack of hyena waiting for you to take a drink at the watering hole.

Don’t go computer shopping at Frys. I love Frys! Unfortunately, they sell the most generic sets of computers you can find. Worse yet, they like to sell you these Fry’s warranties that are completely unnecessary. On anything they sell that’s over $20 they will try to get these insidious guarantees. They are redundant and basically tricking people out of cash. Guess what, expensive technology always comes with a warranty anyway!

Don’t go buying computers from Walmart. No I get it. They have everything. You can catch me in there getting art supplies. Electronics from Walmart seem like they’re already broken. I feel like they drop or misuse their computer products and then sell them to you anyway knowing that you’re going to bring them back. And most of the electronic horror stories I hear come from Walmart. Stay away for now.

Audience, these are my personal opinions and I know many of you may feel different. Where do you shop for your computer parts or computers? Or perhaps you have a  relevant story with one of the places I mentioned above? We all want to hear it so leave a comment and I’ll get back to you. And tomorrow I’ll go over places that I trust!
