Thanksgiving and Christmas have retailers bringing out the early deals. After that fork hits the plate for the last time and the turkey gets devoured we prepare for that Friday. We call it Black Friday. And while I’m not sure why that color I know one thing. It now has digital competition with a certain Cyber Monday.
On the one hand, Black Friday has always been a day of sales. If you can muster the energy and the courage you can save countless pennies on new tech. I’ve seen game consoles, handhelds, computers, laptops, tv’s and other electronics fly off the shelves. Seeing the gratification and personally feeling that after shopping successfully definitely makes me happy. Then again there is a dark side to this day.
Humans lose their entire mind shopping at midnight. I’ve heard of trampling, fist fights, and hospitalizations happening on this day in a consistent fashion. People lose common decency and may even snatch a product you’d like to rightfully buy out of your hands. A man has even attempted to bribe me on Black Friday.
Then again, now we have Cyber Monday. This is the same sort of thing except for you will see ads all over the place online. I had close to 10 emails from different companies telling me of their best deals and then deals the next day just in case I “forgot” to buy something. This idea can lead to double gratification because you can buy something and get exactly what you want. And at some particular moment when it arrives you get to have that feeling again by opening said package.
But, is Cyber Monday worth the 20 emails in your account all harassing you for your hard earned cash? What do you think audience? Should we all just hop online so we don’t get beat up by our fellow man? Perhaps having to ask a question like that already makes traditional deal shopping antiqued. But as always I will leave this up to you. Is Black Friday addled or advantageous?
